Passage
Ecclesiastes 3:16–17 – “In the place of justice... even there was wickedness.”
Theme
Facing the Reality of Injustice
There are moments in life when something happens and you immediately feel it—that’s not right. The Preacher looks at the world and sees something deeply unsettling: the very places meant to uphold justice are filled with corruption. This is not just occasional failure; it is systemic brokenness. We see it in culture, in leadership, in workplaces, and even in our personal lives.
The tension runs deeper because we do not just experience injustice—we also contribute to it. That realization humbles us. It reminds us that the problem is not only “out there,” but also within us.
Yet the passage does not leave us in despair. It points us to a future reality: God will judge the righteous and the wicked. His judgment is not only punishment—it is restoration, vindication, and making all things right. This means justice is not absent; it is delayed. We live in the tension between what is and what will be, and in that space we are invited to trust God rather than take matters into our own hands.
