Scripture
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 – “Two are better than one… For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.”
Devotional Thought
God did not create us for isolation. From the beginning, Scripture teaches that relationships
are part of His good design. Ecclesiastes reminds us that companionship strengthens us in ways
independence never can. When one person falls, another helps them up. When life grows cold,
others help bring warmth and encouragement.
Yet many people still believe maturity means needing nobody. In reality, biblical maturity
looks more like humility—the willingness to be known, helped, corrected, encouraged, and loved.
Isolation often feels safer because vulnerability is uncomfortable, but isolation also leaves
us spiritually vulnerable. One of the enemy’s greatest lies is convincing us to hide our struggles
instead of bringing them into the light. God uses community as one of His primary means of grace
in our lives. He strengthens us through His people. Loving others and being loved by others is not
weakness—it is part of God’s design for flourishing.
Questions for Reflection
- Are there areas of your life where you have isolated yourself from others?
- Who has God placed in your life to help strengthen and encourage you spiritually?
